Mother’s Day is a joyous time for many to show their love and admiration for their mother. Though Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday of May, you’d be hard-pressed not to be bombarded with Mother’s Day commercials, emails and gift guides from April to early May each year. While the smiling faces and warm embraces can be beautiful reminders of a special relationship, they can also be painful triggers for those who have lost their mothers, are struggling with motherhood or have experienced mother-related trauma.
In January of this year, I received an email from a customer who had recently purchased a Zoey Koko Raspberry Bio Glitter Mist for her niece. Her email talked about how her 10-year-old niece had suddenly lost her mother and was having a hard time through the grieving process. Her aunt, in an attempt to soften the devastating life blow that her niece was dealt, was desperate to see her niece smile. I was told that the Raspberry Glitter Mist allowed her niece if only for a moment, to be a tween again as she sprayed the shimmery mist and adored the sweet-smelling aroma.
This email forced me to confront the mammoth question “what does a girl do when she loses the main female figure in her life during her formative years?”. We all know “it takes a village” to raise kids and during Mother’s Day, the pain and sorrow is compounded tenfold for those who have lost their mother.

This got us thinking over here at Zoey Koko. We wanted to create a small moment of happiness for young girls who may be struggling during Mother’s Day. We knew the perfect people to turn to. EmpowerHER® is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, supporting and connecting girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mothers. We decided to donate 100 Raspberry Bio Glitter Mists with the hope of shedding a bit of light and happiness to young girls in our community.
We hope to reinforce the message that despite their mother not being here in the physical, they are still very much loved, adored and cared for by the village that surrounds them.
