Heyy! I’m Alyssa, I’m 13, and I love love LOVE the spooky season. As much as I love Halloween, I sometimes struggle with ways to celebrate, especially when I want to do more than just dressing up and trick-or-treating. If you’re stuck for ideas I’ve come up with a list of fun things for you to do. (And since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, you could totally have a mega Halloween sleepover!)
1. Spooky Baking / Decorating
Why not whip up a delicious batch of cupcakes or cookies and decorate them with creepy faces with hundreds of eyes and teeth? Grab some food colouring in your fave Halloween colours and some spooky sprinkles and go to town! As much as baking with friends sounds like fun, some of us do not have the magic touch when it comes to the kitchen, but I’ve got you covered with an easy idea. Go buy plain cupcakes and cookies, and decorate from there 😉
2. Horror Movie Marathon
Gather up a list of your guest’s favourite Halloween movies and turn out the lights to make it extra spooky. May I suggest Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus or The Addams Family? Get all your snacks to gather around the screen. Scary movies are a classic way to celebrate Halloween and are always more fun with your friends. Annnnnd if you really wanna spice it up, turn it into a game, for example, the first person to scream in each film has to sit with a bowl on their head for the rest of it!
3. Halloween Spa Day
Who doesn’t love to feel pampered, even on Halloween? With Zoey Koko’s Halloween Gift Set, you’ll have all the items necessary to have some ghoulish fun. Paint your nails glittery purple and teal, do different hairstyles with their Halloween themed hair elastics, use the purple glitter gel on your hair, face or body and keep the Pumpkin Shower Gel handy for your next shower.
4. Tell Scary Stories
Even if you can’t think of any scary stories to tell, the internet is full of spooks and scares to share with your friends. Collect some of your best and spookiest stories or make up your own. You can even do the flashlight under-your-face thing, in my experience, that’s always a big hit!
5. Make Saweetie Necklaces
Let’s face it, one of the best parts of Halloween is getting to eat a ton of sugary snacks. Grab some elastic, a needle and some small sweets and you and your friends can make some delicious accessories! Make necklaces, rings, bracelets and anything other jewellery you want for each other or for yourself. Be sure to be careful with that needle though!
6. Monster Drawing Contest
Whether you’re an amazing artist or not, we can all agree, setting a timer and drawing the craziest monster you can, sounds like a lot of fun. You don’t need to be Vincent Van Gogh to win a drawing contest! And anyway, like most things in life, at least in my opinion, the wackier, the better. Then you and all your friends can judge each other’s drawings and decide a winner.
7. Crazy Makeup
When most people think of Halloween, one of the first things that come to mind is dressing up. Whether you’re an expert at makeup or a complete novice, using funky colours and crazy accessories can lead to some good fun. If you wanna try out some SFX makeup, you can make fake blood out of honey and red food colouring, and scar wax out of flour and Vaseline.
8. Make a Halloween Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a classic past-time, so why not make it Halloween themed? Split into groups and try to find different Halloween based objects around your house and garden. I suggest hiding parts of different colored (for different teams) skeletons and then assembling them as you go. The first team with a full skeleton wins!
9. Food Crime Scenes
Grab some ketchup, hotdogs or whatever food you can imagine to make a mini crime scene and split into teams. Give each team a set amount of time to create the best edible crime scene they can. Once the timer goes off you have to leave everything exactly where it is.
10. Mummy Races
We’ve all heard of sack races, right? You put a sack around your legs and hop to the finish line? Let’s creep it up a bit! Grab a bunch of toilet paper and start wrapping it around your legs, then hop as fast as you can to the finish line, trying to not rip the toilet paper.
I hope you all have an absolutely amazing Halloween! I hope your costumes are awesome and you have a huge trick-or-treat haul!
Alyssa💜
